Reindeer Chow Recipe (Easy No-Bake Christmas Snack Mix)

Hey there, snack lovers! Looking for a magical treat that’s super easy to make, totally delicious, and full of holiday cheer? Say hello to Reindeer Chow! This sweet and salty mix is perfect for Christmas parties, movie nights, or just a fun snack with your family. I make it every year, and it disappears faster than you can say “Santa’s sleigh!”

Method

Mix It Up

Start by grabbing your biggest mixing bowl  this recipe makes a lot, so you’ll need plenty of room to stir everything together. Add 2 cups of your favorite cereal (I love using rice squares because they soak up the chocolate perfectly), 2 cups of plain popcorn, 1 cup of mini marshmallows, and 1 cup of pretzels. I usually use gluten-free pretzels and crush them up a little before measuring to make sure they mix in nicely. Finally, toss in ½ cup of colorful sprinkles. These add a festive pop of color and a bit of crunch! Once everything is in the bowl, give it a gentle stir so all the ingredients are evenly combined. At this point, it’s already looking pretty cheerful  but just wait until the chocolate joins the party!

Melt the Chocolate

Next, it’s time to melt your white chocolate chips. Pour the entire 12-ounce bag into a microwave-safe bowl. Place the bowl in the microwave and heat the chips in short bursts  about 20 to 30 seconds at a time. After each interval, take the bowl out and give the chocolate a good stir. It may not look fully melted at first, but stirring helps distribute the heat and keeps the chocolate smooth. Be patient here! White chocolate is delicate and can burn easily if overheated. Keep microwaving and stirring until the chocolate is silky and lump-free. This step is where the magic begins, so take your time and don’t rush it.

Time to Drizzle

Now comes the fun part  covering all that crunchy goodness in melted chocolate. Carefully pour the warm white chocolate over your cereal and popcorn mixture. Use a spoon or spatula to gently stir everything together. Make sure the chocolate coats as much of the mix as possible without smashing the popcorn or cereal. Try to scrape from the bottom of the bowl as you go, so every piece gets a touch of that sweet, creamy coating. It might feel a little sticky and messy, but trust me  it’s worth it!

Let It Set

Once everything is well coated, it’s time to let your Reindeer Chow cool and harden. Line a baking sheet, large platter, or dish with parchment paper (optional, but great for easy cleanup). Spread the mixture out in an even layer, breaking up any big clumps. You want the mix to cool evenly so it forms those perfect, bite-sized clusters. Let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes, or if you’re short on time or feeling impatient (no judgment!), pop it in the fridge for 10 to 15 minutes. The goal here is to let the chocolate set completely so your snack isn’t sticky when you dig in.

Break and Snack

After the chocolate has hardened, it’s time to dig in! Break the mix apart into snackable pieces using your hands or a spatula. You can make big chunks or tiny bites  whatever suits your snack style. Transfer the Reindeer Chow to an airtight container if you’re storing it, or scoop it into bowls for serving right away. This treat is totally irresistible, so don’t be surprised if it disappears quickly!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cereal (any kind you like I use rice squares!)

  • 2 cups popcorn (plain, no butter)

  • 1 cup mini marshmallows

  • 1 cup pretzels (I use gluten-free and crush them a bit)

  • ½ cup colorful sprinkles

  • 1 bag white chocolate chips (12 oz)

Directions

  • Mix It Up: In your big mixing bowl, stir together the cereal, popcorn, mini marshmallows, crushed pretzels, and sprinkles. It’s already looking like a festive party in a bowl!
  • Melt the Chocolate: Pour the white chocolate chips into a microwave-safe bowl. Heat them in 20–30 second bursts, stirring each time, until fully melted and smooth. Be patient  don’t overheat or the chocolate might clump up!
  • Time to Drizzle: Drizzle the melted white chocolate all over the snack mix. Use your spoon or spatula to gently stir everything until every little piece gets a yummy chocolate coating.
  • Let It Set: Spread the mixture out onto a baking sheet or large platter. Let it sit at room temperature until the chocolate hardens  about 30 minutes. If you’re in a hurry, pop it in the fridge for 10–15 minutes.
  • Break and Snack: Once it’s all set, break the Reindeer Chow into snackable pieces. Now it’s ready to munch on!

Notes

  • Don’t overheat the chocolate. It burns quickly! Stir often and microwave in short bursts.
  • Mix gently. Popcorn and cereal can break if you stir too hard.
  • L
  • Work fast. Once you pour the chocolate, stir before it starts to set.
  • Let it cool completely. If you bag it up too early, it’ll get sticky instead of crunchy.

Serving Suggestions

  • Put it in holiday treat bags for gifting.
  • Serve in festive bowls during family movie night.
  • Use it as a party snack or classroom treat (just check for allergies first!).
  • Sprinkle a little extra magic (a.k.a. edible glitter) for sparkle!

Fun Fact

Did you know? Reindeer Chow is also called “Christmas Crunch” or “Santa Snack Mix.” Legend says it’s the secret snack that helps Santa’s reindeer fly faster on Christmas Eve!
